I have been wearing Levis blue jeans since the 1970's and have been more loyal than the company deserves. I guess old habits die hard. And since I am heavily into American history, culture, and sub-cultures a big part of my loyalty has been due to the fact that Levis is, when it comes to clothing, one of the staple icons of US culture. from rockers to bikers and cowboys, Levis is- or was- IT. For the last several years I have been noticing that Levis blue jeans are becoming a ghost of what they once were. I remember wearing them for years and finally retiring them when the knees were gone and the bottoms frayed. I would wear them out, plain and simple. But it took a long while. I used to wash them several times before I wore them the first time, and then only around the house. After a while, they would get the 'right' look and I would wear them in public. I loved my Levis and was proud of the brand. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised as its a definite sign of the times, but new Levis are, to put it simply, garbage. I compare them to pajamas now. That's about the level of 'ruggedness' they are made to nowadays, as long before the knees or any normal place of wear gives out, I have to replace them because of holes in the crotch area. I sure don't crawl around on the floor all day with my knees behind my ears, so how is that possible? If you've worn Levis for any time even close to the number of years I have, a 2 second inspection is all you need to know. Pick a new pair up and feel the fabric- THESE ARE NOT LEVIS. Any so-called American company that has any pride- especially a company whose name evokes images of Americana as easily Levis- should be embarrassed by such an obvious drop in quality. I know the price sure hasn't gone down. I have resisted changing brands for a long time now and I am not looking forward to finally giving up my Levis. But this is another sign of the times I guess. I would be very surprised to get any kind of favorable response as I've come to expect the worst as greed and the ever beckoning arms of China lure more and more of our so-called American companies into easy profit. Please tell me this is not the end of good 'ol Levis!
